Over the coming weeks, we will talk about the official standard for our beloved Bernese Mountain Dogs. This standard has been set and approved by the American Kennel Club. Now there are many variations of the Berner out there and we love them all but we often get questions about the standard for the Berner, so we thought we would share what the AKC has to say on the subject.
Official Standard of the Bernese Mountain Dog General Appearance: The Bernese Mountain Dog is a striking. tri-colored, large dog. He is sturdy and balanced. He is intelligent, strong and agile enough to do the draft and droving work for which he was used in the mountainous regions of his origin. Dogs appear masculine, while bitches are distinctly feminine.
